V. Krasnov, V. Landin. Theoretical and methodological basis of forest ecosystems rehabilitation contaminated with radionuclides
This paper justifies the criteria and methodology of forest ecosystems rehabilitation contaminated by the Chernobyl NPP accidental release. It was found that during the 27 years that have passed since the accident, radiological situation in affected areas has changed considerably, the area of forest ecosystems with 137Cs density of contamination over 37 kBq / m2 has decreased from 1,23 million hectares to 0,833. This is explained by the basic physical decay of biologically significant radionuclides such as 134Cs, 137Cs and 90Sr and reduction of its migration ability in plants. It is necessary to implement measures concerning rehabilitation at these areas, i.e. to recover fully the economic activity and forest products use. The main criteria when planning and rehabilitation of forests are: density of radioactive soil contamination; a radionuclides activity in forest products; the forest workers available annual total radiation dose.
Keywords: forest ecosystem, radioactive contamination, rehabilitation, management activities, radiation control.
